May 22, 2025 Newsletter

Dear Friends,

I am so excited about the Early Summer Tee Along! As a reminder, if you select a tee to knit or crochet and purchase the yarn from us, we will gift you the pattern.  Two of the sweaters I am going to knit are featured in today’s newsletter.  No, I am not an overachiever, but I am going to take this opportunity to finish the Blouse No. 2 that I started for my daughter last summer. The knitting bag has been stored for a year, and surprise, surprise, it is just missing the sleeves. Did you know that I hate to knit sleeves? This sweater is knit in Sandnes Garn Duo, and I know she will get a ton of wear out of it.

The second is the sweater that I am casting on with all of you. It is Isabel Kraemer’s Heimathafen. No, it’s not a “tee” but a summer-weight sweater. Living here on the peninsula, it’s rare that we get a day warm enough for short sleeves. I am going to use knit Heimathafen in graphite and vintage celadon. I can hardly wait to knit a sweater with mYak Fior di Lino! My swatch is yummy.

Do you need more inspiration? Check out our blog post on the tees some of us will be knitting through the month of June. Drop by the shop on May 31st from 10:30 am to noon to cast on with all of us.  If you cannot make it into the shop, do not forget about our Ravely group!

What was on the books for me last week?  I finished my Mabel sweater, and now I have a lot of ends to weave in and blocking to do. I will share a photo of that next week. Mr. Monarch was out of town, so I spent a lot of time working. I have been planning some classes, future knit-a-longs, and a fun specialty advent calendar that I am excited to introduce. Tomorrow is my daughter’s birthday, and we are all so excited to celebrate her!

Knit and be happy,
Ann

Highlights

Curious what the Monarch team is casting on for our Summer Tee-Along? 🌞 Head to the blog to see everyone's picks—there's a mix of breezy textures, classic silhouettes, and yarns we can't wait to work with!

Joji Locatelli’s latest design has us completely smitten! Inspired by her love of travel, this crescent-shaped shawl is a joyful journey in itself—featuring a touch of lace, plush garter texture, and a striking dropped stitch pattern that flows throughout. To celebrate this beautiful new pattern—and the arrival of our latest happy box from Magpie Fibers—we’re casting on with the luxurious Swanky Sock. Join us and let your stitches take you somewhere wonderful.

We’re head over heels for From Me With Love, a beautiful design knit in mYak’s dreamy Kupa Baby Yak Cotton—a luscious blend of organic cotton and the softest baby yak. This fresh mid-season yarn is buttery soft, wonderfully drapey, and an absolute delight to knit with. Our kits create the small size shawl, making it a perfect project for on-the-go knitting and a stylish accessory you'll reach for all season long. Trust us—you’ll be tempted to make more than one!

Andrea Mowry’s beloved Harlow hat just got a brilliant upgrade! Harlow Flip features a clever brim that flips to match either side—thanks to syncopated brioche, it’s fully reversible and endlessly fun. Knit from the bottom up in two-color brioche, this version gives you two looks in one cozy hat. A must-knit for brioche lovers!

Cumulus Tee

The Cumulus Tee by PetiteKnit is a timeless summer staple—simple, elegant, and oh-so-wearable. Designed for laceweight yarns held double, it creates a beautifully airy fabric with just the right amount of drape. Connie is knitting hers in Knitting for Olive Pure Silk for our Summer Tee-Along, and we think it’ll be stunning for those breezy coastal days.

Blouse No. 2

An engaging knit—absorbing, intriguing, and oh-so-satisfying—Blouse No. 2 by My Favourite Things is sure to become a favorite. I knit this one for my daughter and will finish the sleeves so she can enjoy it all season long! With its oversized fit, dropped shoulder construction, and wide, cozy sleeves, it’s the ultimate in comfort. Paired with Sandnes Garn Duo, it’s the perfect sweater to carry you from season to season. (And yes… I just might need to knit one for myself!)

Heimathafen

Set sail into comfort and style with our Heimathafen Sweater Kit. Featuring the luxurious mYak Fior de Lino yarn—an exquisite blend of Baby Yak and Tibetan wool—this fingering-weight yarn offers ethereal softness and vibrant, season-spanning hues. A timeless yet modern sailor-inspired pullover, with a stunning allover dip stitch colorwork pattern that elegantly highlights the round yoke construction. Perfect for cozying up on crisp days or layering through changing seasons. Your home port for comfort and style awaits!
