Spotlight On: Single Skein Knits!

Are you still traveling over the summer season? Quick knits and single skein projects make for a great companion!  We've rounded up some of our favorite single skein patterns so you can pack light...More room for LYS souvenirs!

Summer holiday off the coast in Italy? We've already booked the next flight, and we're taking this fun little shawlette, An Italian Summer Scarf, with us. An easy garter and eyelet pattern makes for a relaxing knit. Calling for a worsted-weight, we think this cute accessory will be divine in one skein of mYak Baby Yak Medium

If you love self-striping or gradient yarns, Zuzu's Petals by Carina Spencer shows them off beautifully. Designed for multiple gauges, you could use yarns like Berroco Summer Sesame, a great summer yarn, or go woolly with a Freia Ombre Shawl Ball. A yarn like Berroco Millefiori Light would make for a lovely light-weight option. Whichever you choose, this one skein project is sure to delight!

Some other one skein neckwear accessories on our radar:

If you've ever wanted to try Luft, one of my favorite yarns from Woolfolk, the Mitra Hat by Shellie Anderson is a great way to sample it. This quick to knit unisex hat only takes one skein of this gorgeous bunny-soft yarn! You may just need one in every color.

The Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda is a perfect pattern to showcase beautiful hand-dyed yarns like The Farmer's Daughter Squish Fingering, Plucky Knitter Primo Fingering, or Sea Change Fibers Littoral Fingering. Cleverly designed, you start with increasing a crown, knit a tube, and then end with decreasing a crown. This makes for a reversible hat that is doubly warm.  Take a gander at our fingering-weight yarns...All you need is about 400 yards to knit this classic hat!

A typical skein of sock yarn yields enough yardage to knit a pair of socks. This makes for an easy, portable project. We love Summer Lee's Classic Bobble Sock set–so delightful! Our kits of Farmer’s Daughter Squish Fingering will have your tootsies (and your needles) dancing!

A long-time shop favorite, the Turkish Bedsocks by Kit Hutchin is an engaging knit. Requiring only about 175 yards, if you have one sock skein with 400 yards, you can easily knit two pairs!  How about a punchy pair in Hedgehog Fibers Sock?

In need of a little housewarming gift? The Tin Ceiling Washcloth from Purl Soho will make for a lovely option. About 131 yards of yarn is recommended to knit the washcloth size, and with one skein of soft Berroco Pima 100 cotton, you can make two!  Pair them with homemade soap or some luxury hand cream for an extra special gift.

We hope this post has inspired you with some fun and easy one-skein projects you can take anywhere.  If you choose one (or two!) from our list, be sure to tag us on Instagram or send us an email at hello@monarchknitting.com. We love to see your projects!
